Principal News

January News from Oakland Elementary-
What a festive start to our holiday season:

  • Our enrollment is holding steady at 237 as of 1/3/24- We are still getting requests from neighboring districts to transfer into district-
  • Our December Self Manager party was a hit. Students decorated cookies and watched a winter movie to celebrate their earning or keeping of their Self-Manager badges.
  • Our 3rd and 4th grade teachers are beginning to expose the students to an online format of test and note taking in preparation for the Oregon Statewide Assessments System (OSAS) coming up this spring. Through our data meetings, we are noticing that note taking at the 3rd and 4th grade levels was a skill we needed to work on- as it is a large chunk of the OSAS test components.
  • Students and staff are beginning to tackle the end of Quarter two assessments. It is remarkable how quickly the year seems to be moving.
  • Miss Davis has been guiding our K-3 Early Literacy team of homeroom teachers, instructional assistants and new curriculum through the Early Literacy Success Initiative (HB3198). Having the ability to use small group tutoring / instruction sessions with our new additional staff is exciting and we look forward to our end of Quarter two data to see the learning growth of our students.

News from our Social Emotional Learning Specialist- Miss Fox:

In December, Miss Fox began helping students to start exploring different career options with The Oregon Oregon Career Information System (CIS) platform. Questioning students on, “What do you want to be when you grow up- and Why?” This is all part of an ODE initiative where Oregon is committed to providing career exploration opportunities for all of our students through Career Connected Learning (CCL). Career awareness and exploration allows students to explore and assess their academic and workplace skills, even at an early grade level. This is important as they explore their aptitudes and interests, and plan for the future. Miss Fox will be attending a Winter Regional Training which will further her ability to engage students in the all the features the Oreogn CIS has to offer.  The answers are excellent and you’d be surprised how confident a kindergartner can be when it comes to what they want to be when they grow up.
