Dear Oakland Parents & Students,
I wanted to reach out to you now that the flurry of school starting has passed, we’ve celebrated homecoming, and we getting into the groove of school. It is amazing how fast September has flown by and we are over halfway through the first quarter. First, some celebrations- our Football, Volleyball, and Cross-Country teams are currently in the middle of their seasons. They are playing hard, and have been fun to watch with full crowds in attendance. It has been amazing to watch our student sections cheer on our Oakers, and see the stands filled with blue & gold. Band is sounding great, playing strong at our home football games, and FFA enjoyed their welcome back Open House with full attendance. OHS is off to a great start and we are excited to share this with you, our greatest supporters.
I know many of our families have been affected by the Covid-19 virus, either directly or indirectly. Thank you for continuing to be patient as we navigate these waters. We understand how frustrating and perhaps scary it is if your student has been identified as a direct contact, and as a result has been asked to quarantine. Thank you for your efforts in following our protocols. If your student has been in quarantine, or missed school for extended times, please make sure they are checking canvas and reaching out to their teachers to stay caught up in their classes.
The best thing we can continue to do to prevent the spread of disease and further quarantines is to continue monitoring your students for symptoms. If they are not feeling well, please keep them home from school. Please continue to encourage them to wear their masks properly and maintain their distance while they are here at school. This is particularly difficult at lunch, while students are gathered at tables with masks off. In addition, just a reminder to our fans that masks continue to be required at all indoor facilities (volleyball) and football when 6' distance cannot be maintained.
As I close out this email, please know that midterms are next Thursday, October 7th. Please be checking in with your students and monitoring Alma; if they have fallen behind, encourage them to follow up with teachers.
Thank you so much for being part of this amazing Oaker family, and we look forward to all that the 2021-22 school year brings us.
